Tonight, at gym #1 (shitty, neighborhood gym), I wrapped up my workout and was packing up my junk to head out when, "On Top of the World" by The Carpenters started piping in through the gym stereo.

Everyone shared a chuckle.

It got louder and louder.

People grew annoyed.

It stayed that volume for the duration of the song as gym members grew surly and impatient. Soon, they wished to be on top of someone's skull with a crowbar.

As I exited though, and the song wound down to it's final measures, smiles grew on everyones' faces that I looked into.

As I climbed into my car, I whistled a familiar tune through my teeth.

I decided that I like this song.

I have often heard songs at the gym like that that make me smile. Then I imagine everyone at the gym breaking into song together. Then I realize I've been on the treadmill too long...or watching Magnolia too many times. Either way, sounds like a cool night at the crappy gym.

I read a blog discussion once about "what song was number one on the charts when you were born," and the significance of that in your life. After checking Billboard, I discovered that "On Top of the World" was number one when I was born. I still don't know what that says about me.

Have a great 2008 Rusty. And say howdie to your sister when you get a chance. We miss her out in the blogsphere.

Missing her spirit.
Hoping she is OK.
